Invisalign® FAQs

How long do I wear the aligners for?

Invisalign® aligners are worn 22 hours a day for the duration of the treatment.

What are attachments?

Individually designed resin buttons (attachments) are placed on the teeth at the start of treatment to allow the teeth to be moved as desired.

How do you create space to move the teeth?

Carefully planned ‘slenderisation’ of the teeth is carried out in most cases to create space to allow the teeth to move. This involves gentle polishing of the enamel between your teeth up to a quarter of a millimetre per tooth.

How long do I have to wear the retainers for at the end of treatment?

Retainers are for life – we now know that teeth will always move without indefinite retention. This may be in the form of clear retainers (Vivera’s by Invisalign®). Some cases may require fixed wire retainers in addition to the clear retainers. Retainers require regular replacement to maintain their efficiency.
